Individual Therapy

via Telehealth for adults residing in California

Therapy is inherently a vulnerable thing, you are opening up to work through fears, anxieties, struggles, personal growth, anger, etc.  I like to make sessions a place where you feel accepted for all the ways you show up. Tears are something people often feel the need to apologize for, and that is never an expectation in the space we share, it is a human response and a release.

Sessions are typically 55 minutes, and we meet virtually because that makes therapy so much more accessible to where you can be in the comfort of your choice of space (some like to be at home, some like to be a private conference room at work, some like to be in their parked car), and you can be in an entirely different city in California than me.

What you can expect from me:

I will be bringing my full authentic self, which can include: being gentle, being firm, validating, providing tools, challenging your process, bringing in humor, and bridging theory with real life.

What I expect from my clients:

I ask you to be open, come with a sense of areas/topics you want to address, and be transparent about what you think is achievable/ working well and also what may not be hitting the mark (don’t be overly polite, this process is for you!).  Leave the rest to me and the alchemy produced from the chemistry of our work together!

What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART) is a brief, structured psychotherapy that helps people resolve distressing memories and symptoms by reprocessing how those memories are stored in the brain; often in as little as one session. ART integrates eye-movement techniques with image rescripting to reduce emotional and physiological reactivity while clients stay in control throughout the process. Through ART, clients are able to erase negative images associated with memories, resulting in the elimination of corresponding triggers while preserving the factual memory.

As a clinician who is certified and fond of using ART, here are my personal thoughts for why ART is my go-to trauma therapy:

  • Quick and efficient: Evidence-based to resolve a trauma in 1-3 sessions, most often in 1 session (randomized-controlled study shown to be effective for healing trauma and used on military personnel)

  • You don’t have to say what happened to you. Some trauma responses actually render someone unable to verbalize a trauma and with this therapy you don’t have to force a way to say what happened.

  • Works virtually, and you are awake and aware for the entire process (not hypnosis). You are able to be in the comfort of your home

  • Effective without the need for substances (great if you are nursing/pumping or in recovery)

  • A trauma therapy modality that uses bilateral stimulation (typically in the form of eye movements side to side) to access traumatic memories and reconsolidate them to where you can look at what happened to you as facts without the distress.

  • You will remember what happened, but no longer have the intensely negative responses in your body and brain (example: you can talk about a challenging birth without bursting into tears, feeling intense desperation/anger, or feeling like your heart is racing/pounding)

Certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Certification in ART means that I have completed the 3 Day Basic ART Training,  submitted proof of completion of conducting over 30 ART sessions, attended consultation with and become a member of the International Society of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (IS-ART), and passed a competency test.

Perinatal Consultation

….this world still does not seem to grasp the dynamics of trying to conceive, pregnancy or parenting

In my years of work, time after time I hear about work places or friends and family not understanding the impact of fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, birth trauma or struggling postpartum.

Unfortunately, well meaning Human Resources departments or managers at work don’t often know nuances such as how you can qualify for additional disability leave for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.  With targeted education about what to look out for, and how to talk to someone who is struggling with perinatal challenges, employee retention and satisfaction with the employer increases!

Outside of the work realm, friends and family can gain a solid sense of how to better support their person struggling with perinatal challenges rather than feeling like you keep stepping in it or beginning to avoid interactions all together because you don’t know what to say.

Examples of past Perinatal Consultations:

  • What to say and what NOT to say when someone has a pregnancy loss

  • Training on Trauma Informed Care for Perinatal Healthcare Providers (including specifics like how to approach an ultrasound with those who have had pregnancy loss or medical trauma)

  • How to understand reproductive trauma and coping tips

  • All about PMADs (statistics, signs and symptoms, resources)

Contact me directly to set up a free consultation. I can tailor education and tips about your specific perinatal support need and see how my 16 years of expertise can assist you 1:1 or to train an employee group at large.

IVF Support Group

I am honored to be the collaborative partner for Hanabusa IVF Clinic’s Holistic IVF and Fertility support.  There are so many crossovers with mental health and fertility challenges, and when your mental health is better supported, you can move through the challenges with more ease.  I facilitate their free monthly support group, and anyone experiencing fertility challenges (whether you are a patient of Hanabusa IVF clinic or not!) is welcome to attend.

I have long admired Hanabusa’s compassionate and individualized care, and feel so aligned to be able to offer monthly support groups where clients can come together, share challenges and wins, process grief, nervousness, disappointments and hopes, learn some coping tools, and feel less alone in the process.

If you are interested in attending this support group, you can sign up on Hanabusa’s website: https://www.hanabusaivf.com/resources/holistic-ivf-support/
